The Church - God’s People
The most significant invitation we receive is the invitation to belong to God’s people. It is our common call to be His Church, to gather in Christ’s name and by our very assembling to be the sacrament of God’s presence in the world. In addition to this every parishioner is encouraged to active participation in the parish and work for the kingdom of God. That is expressed in an invitation to serve - to work for others both within the Church and in the wider world, as we try to promote the Kingdom of God. Service in the Church is often called Ministry - we minister to one another and when we do this we are called Ministers.
Liturgical Ministries - Serving at the Sunday Gathering. These opportunities include service in liturgical music: the choir, instrumentalists and cantors. There are also leaders of the Children’s Liturgy of the Word, extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist, Readers and Passkeepers as well as Altar Servers.
The Ministry of Hospitality. We are called to share with others the hospitality we ourselves receive from God and to invite others to share the riches of God’s word and extend the invitation to walk with us on the journey of faith. The primary service we offer here is in extending a welcome to all who come. In this we share in the work of Jesus Christ who welcomes all who come - those who come every week, visitors, as well as those who have just come to enquire what the Church is like. Through welcome, offering tea/coffee after Mass, at the reception of Funerals and in the general welcome of visitors and enquirers, we practise the ministry of hospitality. Sacramental Preparation. This is the work of prayerfully accompanying and supporting those preparing for the sacraments, especially the sacraments of Initiation and Marriage is a vital ministry of the parish. Outreach. There is a variety of work to be done in reaching out beyond the gathered community. This includes:
Care of the church fabric. This vital contribution to the parish is expressed by:
